Netflix

Netflix is a mail order movie rental company. You sign up for a small fee (which depends on how many movies you would like to receive at a time.) The plans range from $4.99 (1 movie at a time for two movies a month--in my opinion-- not the best value) $8.99 (1 at a time unlimited) up to 2 at a time, 3, 4, 5, etc. The most expensive plan is $47.99 for 8 at a time. This may seem like a lot, but let's factor in other rental or movie watching choices. A couple likes to watch movies. So every weekend they rent two movies from the local movie store. Each movie costs $3.75 and you are allowed to keep it for 2 days. Say there are 4 weekends a month, for 8 movies that couple is paying $30.00. But say the last weekend they forgot to return one of the movies for 2 days. That adds up-- 3.75 each extra night... brings that monthly total to $37.00 for 8 movies! Not to mention the gas it cost to get to and from the movie store, and the disappointment when they didn't have yours in stock. Now say that couple used netflix. Those same movies, delivered to their mailbox about 2 days before they are ready to watch and being on the 2 a time plan it costs $13.99. They didn't send back one movie for 2 days, and it still cost $13.99. They decided for a long weekend they would order another movie for tuesday, it still cost $13.99.

See my point? This is how it works, you pick your plan, you give them your address, and you set up your queue, (meaning you go through their movie lists and pick the movies you want to watch at some point. They put them on a list for you, numbered so that when you have an open slot (only one movie at home if you have a 2 plan) they send you the next one on in your queue. They send you your #1 movie to your mailbox, you watch it, put it back in the envelope and send it off tomorrow on your way to work. They receive it and send out your next movie. And the cycle continues.

Good points:
They are very quick at sending and receiving. (usually 1 or 2 days each way)
No late fees, EVER
No driving to the movie store
No forgetting what movie it was you wanted to see when you get to the store,
No worrying that they wont have it (if it is currently out, it will be back in a couple of days and they will automatically send it to you when you are up.)
CHEAPER MOVIES!!!

Bad points: if you want to watch a movie on demand-- you have to plan ahead of time....

OH NO.. wait-- they have play on demand for computers also. You get free hours of play on the computer!

There you go-- it's a perfect plan!
